Vision and approach
Embroidery boring and old-fashioned? It certainly isn't. With my work, I want to show that embroidery can be very contemporary and fits perfectly into modern interiors.
My artworks arise organically, without a set plan and directly from my own creativity. My style is mostly abstract with graphic elements and a clean aesthetic where colour plays an important role. I spend a lot of attention and time looking for the right colour combinations.
The canvas forms the foundation (base) of my embroideries. For creating a large work, I choose a soedan or smyrna canvas, which adds a contemporary look due to its coarser structure. I use various types of wool and cotton and sometimes I also incorporate other materials into my creations such as shells, buttons or beads, to add a particular accent. For small works (see Emboidery various), I use the so-called aïda canvas and embroider with traditional embroidery thread.
When a large embroidery is completed, the work is professionally framed with a handy hanging system for the perfect finish. My artwork is deliberately not framed behind glass. This way, the work stands out better and interacts more with the viewer. It invites you to take a closer look and even touch it - and that is exactly the intention.
